Description
Sant Vicenç d'Estamariu is a church in the municipality of Estamariu protected as a cultural asset of local interest.
Originally, it was a basilica-style church, with three naves topped by three semicircular apses, and a transversal nave in the form of an inscribed cross. The naves were separated by cruciform pillars. The roofs have also disappeared, but in Whitehill's description of 1941 we are told of a wooden entablature, which would have replaced the original barrel-vaulted roofs in the central and quarter aisles in the 18th century sphere on the sides.
Reconstructed apse.
The northern nave collapsed and was removed with the wall of the baker's arches on this side. These arches start from four cruciform pillars, and also collected the toral arches that supported the vault. The presbytery area is raised in relation to the naves. The building is accessed through a half-point door located to the south, where there are windows that correspond to the three naves. The apse is decorated with wall paintings.
The exteriors have a smooth-walled apse, next to the larger central apse, decorated with Lombard, blind and pilastered arches, between which open double-slit windows. The device is of irregular stone, with larger ashlars in the corners, arranged neatly in uniform rows. It is a form popularly known as "gavatx throw".
The entrance to the compound and the cemetery is a unique porticoed structure, supported by stone pillars and worked wooden columns, which recall the shapes of a common.
Location: Estamariu, Alt Urgell, Catalonia, Southern Europe.
