Description
A "great Gothic castle" erected in the middle of Barcelona's Diagonal Avenue is a claim for the contemplation of any visitor to the city. The "Casa de les punxes" is actually a multi-storey building that imitates the shape of medieval castles and is one of the most recognized profiles of Barcelona's modernism.
The Terradas sisters were the owners of three properties located between Avinguda Diagonal, Carrer Rosselló and Carrer Bruc in Barcelona. The order to reform the buildings enabled Josep Puig i Cadafalch to unify the three bodies into one, through a large exposed brick facade. As a result, in 1905, an imposing construction was born that occupies a triangular island of houses, and stands out like a large medieval castle with six towers. Precisely the conical roof of the towers, finished in spikes, gives the popular name to the house, which everyone knows as the "Casa de les punxes".
Location: Barcelona, Catalonia, Southern Europe.
